Healthy Dunes

The dune is the edge between land and sea. It protects the forest, the wetlands and our communities against erosion.

Longshore drift creates the dunes and sand spits. This wave action moves the sand to create the coastal system as we know it.

American beachgrass protects the dune from bad weather. They make up a carpet of grasses that weaves the dune together by the roots.
